Home Security

Live in comfort with a home security system

We live in an uncertain world. We watch the news, where we are constantly regaled with the latest horror stories, and read the papers that have all the depressing details on that latest break and enter in your neighbourhood. This can inevitably get one thinking. Are my family and I safe? What would I do if a situation arose where people were trying to force their way into our home? Short of being a black belt martial artist, or having a gun in your household, which many are understandably leery of, the best way to alleviate these worries is with the comfort of a professional home security system.

Don't trust your safety to chance

Home security systems can come in many forms, from the relatively simple, to the robust. These can be broken down further into local or remote alarms, or a combination of the two. Local alarms are the simpler and more cost effective of the two systems. When the alarm's sensors are triggered, it will emit an alarm sound or flashing light to alert the residents of possible danger, and to hopefully scare off any potential intruders.

A remote home security alarm system is routinely connected to a central station that can then monitor any activity in the area. They can call in the aid of local authorities that may be needed for the situation at hand, speak directly to either the homeowner or intruder through speaker phones, or contact a local resident to check on the situation if they are unable to contact anyone within the household and/or discern the problem.

Wired or wireless, that is the question

Setups can include both wired and wireless home security. Wireless systems are generally cheaper, using battery powered transmitters and wireless repeaters in many cases to deliver the signal to the control panel. Wireless setups are easy to install, but require constant checking of the sensors to ensure they aren't unnecessarily draining the batteries, and of the batteries themselves. Wired systems are more costly, but also slightly more reliable, with no risk of power loss, and alerts of any tampering to the wiring system that could be the precursor to a home security breach.

A home security camera system for larger homes with large lots is also recommended. These are most notably used at the gates of homes in conjunction with speakerphones to limit unwanted access onto the premises. The cameras can be stationary, for instance when positioned to watch doors or entryways, or have movement patterns to cover a larger area of ground.

A common complaint of home security products are the annoyance factor involved with false alarms. These are typically triggered by system instability or through the unintentional actions of the home owner. As annoying as these can potentially be, they are a small price to pay for the comfort and peace of mind you'll be afforded with your home security system.
